Windows Vista and Hauppauge PVR 150 – No Signal Problem

April 10, 2007

If you are running Windows Vista, with a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 DVBT TV Tuner and, having scanned for channels and found the expected amount, you may then find that onlt a few of the channels are actually usable, with the majority reporting ‘No signal currently being recieved’

This is due to Windows Vista recording the incorrect frequency for the channels. I believe this is only an issue for signals from some transmitters, something to do with whether or not you get your signal from a primary or repeater. (If you know more, please feel free to post a comment!)

There is a fix for this, which I have detailed below:

  1. Open Regedit
  2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  3. Look for “Hauppauge WinTV 88x DVB-T Tuner/Demod” (or other 88x Tuner/Demod)Under that
  4. There should be a key called DriverDataWithin there
  5. Create a new DWORD called UseFreqOffsetDVBT and set its value to 167 decimal(0x000000a7 hexadecimal)
  6. Create a new DWORD called TunerRemap and set its value to 0
  7. Reboot – You should now be able to view them channels!

A few notes of caution:

  • Messing with the registry can seriously screw things up – Be careful, and as with all system maintenance, take a full verified backup first!
  • I didnt come up with this fix, I’m just posting it here as it took me a long time to find, so might be useful for others in the future
