Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride

July 1, 2007

Today I took part in the Dorset Macmillan bike ride along with three friends from work. We all had a good time, taking the 25 mile route (There was a choice of 15, 25, 40 or 60 Miles).

The ride started at Broadstone at 9:15am, going through Hill View, Lytchett Matravers, Sturminster Marshall, Shapwick, Tarrant Crawford, Charborough Park and Morden before going back towards Broadstone for the finish.

Even though it was rather damp under-wheel and just slightly too windy, we got quite lucky with the weather considering the torrential down pours of the last few days. It stayed dry and was actually quite a pleasent temperature to be riding in, if a little humid.

We did the ride in around 1hour 50 minutes, although we took quite a leisurely pace (Felt far from leisurely to me!). The event was attended last year (2006) by some 500 cyclists, raising £47k for Macmillan, I would guess this number was topped this year, so hopefully raised at least a similar amount.

Hopefully we’ll get together to do this one again next year, and get some other rides in before then! I would highly recommend this one, it was very well organised and there are distances to suit most abilities – Just don’t expect to see me on the 60 miler!!
