Type ‘System.Web.UI.UpdatePanel’ does not have a public property named ‘Wizard’.

May 29, 2008

Yesterday I was creating a relativley simple page which had an AJAX update panel, inside of which I placed a Wizard control.

When I loaded the page, I got the following error:

Type ‘System.Web.UI.UpdatePanel’ does not have a public property named ‘Wizard’

I examined the web form markup, which looked fine, as you can see from the code below, my UpdatePanel did not have a property ‘Wizard’

<asp:updatepanel id=”UpdatePanelQuestions” runat=”server”>
<asp:wizard id=”WizardQuestions” runat=”server” displaysidebar=”True”>
<wizardsteps></wizardsteps>
</asp:Wizard>
</asp:UpdatePanel>

After a bit of Googling, I found that I needed a ContentTemplate node within the UpdatePanel, as follows:

<asp:updatepanel id=”UpdatePanelQuestions” runat=”server”>
<contenttemplate>
<asp:wizard id=”WizardQuestions” runat=”server” displaysidebar=”True”>
<wizardsteps></wizardsteps>
</asp:Wizard>
</contenttemplate>
</asp:UpdatePanel>

It’s also worth noting that I discovered that the <wizardsteps> node is required, even if you are adding your wizard steps progmatically
